he plays ari gold (or is it ari goldman?), on entourage - he plays the ostensible main character's agent...though the best part of the show is the ensemble cast - so it's not clear who really is the main character

he's so evil, diabolical yet charming that you can't help loving him, even though his character is nearly devoid of any but the smallest glimmers of goodness and humanity - yet, if you look close, you can see them...

the other thought i had here, is that i gotta think that to be effective, the actor, in this case piven, has to have more than a little of these qualities in his real personality - not to say he is a jerk in real life - but perhaps he magnifies aspects of his real personality for dramatic/comic effect as an actor...but the seed must be there...
