happy 4th!

*warning* this is a gross entry - proceed at your own risk...

one sentient being not having a happy fourth is a rabbit parts of which we found this AM on our family room carpet. it wasn't there when i went to bed - although, i did have the screen open last night taking photos of the spectacular storm (nature's fireworks). but i'd have seen this. we found a window out - perhaps because of the storm - or perhaps due to a bloodthirsty cat - that we feel allowed one of our cats (we have a suspect) to get in and out to perpetrate this most heinous crime. my wife has a stronger stomach than me, so she did the entrail/severed limb duty (gee, i thought rabbit feet were good luck) - enumerating the find/taking inventory (hmmm, a foot, only 2 toes - where are the rest?. we could make a keychain honey!. - look an ear)  - while i cowered in the fetal position in the corner, wretching....i'm glad the kids didn't find the crime scene...

guess, all my vegetarian propoganda is not having an impact...i feel like reporting my cat to peta, but i'm not sure what they'd do, given that he, in fact, is an animal as well...

i think i may need to move...

Mike I'm so sorry! What a horrible way to wake up!

Are you a vegetarian?!?? I've been wanting to make the move for so many years, and I just don't know if I'd be able to find alternative sources of protein enough to really make me healthy. Also, I think it might be boring! Any advice would be greatly appreciated... books, web sites, whatever. Help!

yes, i am...
my suggestion - take it at your pace - that is maybe eliminate one food group at a time...(beef, then chicken, then fish)...

make your own rules - anything you do in this regard is good - even if it takes a while to become fully vegetarian or even if you never do...

peta has good resources...
boring - nah - may have to learn a few new tricks... a lot of "ethnic" restaurants - indian, etc are good - also ethnic cuisine provides good ideas guidelines - alternate prtein, tofu, tempeh, beans, etc....

and of course, listen to your body

Cats are really something else with their primal instincts.

Thinking Girl: I do a lot of veggie dishes, having grown up in a quasi-vegetarian home. Mike's advice about listening to your body is excellent. For that reason I don't think I can go completely veggie, but I do enjoy many veggie dishes. I am well known for my vegetarian chili at work! :-)

There is a blog somewhere here on Blogspot with vegan lunches...this woman takes photos of her son's lunchbox with the lunch she made for him...they look mouthwateringly good. She includes recipes.

ooh, great guys! Thanks so much! I find it hard enough just to get in enough fruits and vegetables in the run of a day! I am such a sweet-toothie. I have a couple of cookbooks with vegetarian recipes. maybe I should dig them out and take a look. Vegetarianism really does fit into my general worldview. I think I'll give it a good look.

Thanks again!
