i rode my bike for about 30 miles yesterday - about 20 round trip to oberlin - about 6 to blockbuster and about 4 to rite aid. i was really exhausted.
i started really early in the morning and my legs felt like lead. every stroke was torture. i wondered why i continued. i wanted to quit. but it didn't - silly macho-ism - mind over matter - not sure. i recall a yoga teacher saying that often your mind quits before your body and i think that was true. later on the way home, i realized the problem - was going uphill and against the wind.
had breakfast at a little cafe i like - but had such a long wait - good thing i was in no hurry. ended up sitting at the counter reading walden. amazingly the guy next to me (who was hitting on a very attractive young lady next to him) was from concord - he was an environmental science major so we talked about thoreau and edward abbey. he admired abbey cause he lived the life - questioned whether thoreau really "kept it real" i quoted gandhi "it takes a lot of people to keep me poor" and it cracked him up. funny - saturday i watched coffee and cigarettes and now i'm in a deleted scene (c&c was alternatingly pretentious and amusing - guess i'd give it kind of a thumbs up - the bill murray/wu tang clan scene was priceless)
after breakfast - with better music on the phones (jean luc ponty) and fueled by vegan pancakes (oh, yeah and the wind and downhill) i felt much better on the bike... i took a few photos, including one of a wolly bear. in ohio, we do not believe in silly superstitions like the ground hog. the wooly bear caterpillar accurately predicts winter based on the size of it's stripe - the wider the worse the winter - or is it better...judging by this one, good thing i bought skiis (or not!)
