i, like anyone who listens to non-mainstream music, KNOW that there is a lot of great stuff out there that i haven't heard yet. and frankly it bugs me. of course, i lack the funds and the time to check everyone out - to, separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. recommendations of others is helpful - in the blogosphere, david, among others is a particularly valuable source.
what i have also found useful is napster's premium service. i am sure there are better sources. but i like napster's simplicity, and have found it useful in discovering new music.
for example, today was in the mood for some pop-jazz. through some casual browsing in napster, i found amy fabry - an artist i never heard of, but based on her album cover, i thought i might like it (ok, i thought she looked cute - sue me, i have a superficial side). it turns out to be a real tasty record. reviews on her site compare her to norah jones and carol king - and it's not far off (though i would say the king comparison is closer). really interested in giving her a second (and perhaps third) listen...
